Explanation of Idea: This idea is for individual contracts that the students will write up and sign at the beginning of each week. It allows the students to evaluate themselves in each subject and have them take pride in their contract and the subject matter they commit to excel in that week. This idea relates to component 2 which focuses on students taking pride in their work. Students will be able decide themselves what they feel they in to focus on that week. The students will have time to look through all their work from the previous week and pick a subject matter they will committee to improving throughout the week of their contract. The contract allows the classroom to great expectations and energy for learning. The students making their own contracts they are the ones setting the goals for themselves. It allows me to read their contracts and keep track of how the students see their work and where they feel they need improvement. This idea also allows me to work individually with students to help them reach their goal in their contract. The students will be directed to write a personal goal for the week, the plan for their goal, the study habits they will practice for that goal, a goal for the test all of the goals they make will be based around the grade they want on the test that will be given on the subject matter. This contract allows the student to self regulate and teaches the students responsibility. At the beginning of each week the students will fill out a contract and file it away in their contract folder and at the end of the week they will pull out their contract folder and put a sticker next to each goal they met. I will write comment or notes on the contract to let the students know what I think or how I feel about the goal. Writing notes on the contract will allow me to communicate with the students in private without other students knowing. On the contract there will be a reflection portion where the students will be given time to reflect on their work and evaluate how they did that week.
Assessment Tool: After each contract is submitted I will be able to read them and see what I can do as the teacher to help that student reach their goal of the week. I will be able to observe the students and the work they produce and what they wrote for their reflection to their work. Having these goal will allow each student to have a better appreciation for their work and I will be able to assess better by know their goals. Their goal will encouragement them to work harder and produce acceptable assignments. Each week the students will be able go into their file and see their progress.
